Why Love Amethyst?

A crystal healing classic if there ever was one. Amethyst is a stone that is adored by all sorts of different people across the world. I would say this stone is essential for every crystal enthusiast.

Personally, this is one of my absolute favorites–it is the stone I have the most of in my collection. The calming energies and the ravishing purple color just call to me!

Amethyst helps us strengthen our spirituality while offering us energetic protection. Spiritual Awakenings are becoming more and more common, and a lot of these people are finding themselves naturally drawn to this stone. I think this is because it heightens our intuition, promotes inner peace, and helps raise our vibrations.

Despite its prevalence, natural specimens are in very high demand. And extremely easy to obtain. Any store that sells crystals will definitely have this crystal. Enormous amethyst geodes can be purchased at pretty much any rock shop or mineral show. They are relatively affordable and absolutely incredible. One day I hope to own one myself!

A Brief History of Amethyst

Known as the Sobriety Stone. Citizens of ancient Greece and Rome believed that drinking wine from an amethyst encrusted goblet prevented them from becoming intoxicated. They were also known to keep this stone with them when they were hung over. In the hopes they would sober up faster. In fact, the name “amethyst” comes from the Greek word “a-methystos”, meaning not drunk.

Throughout history, amethyst was considered a precious stone, just as valuable as a diamond. Nowadays, it is considered semi-precious by jeweling companies. The metaphysical community of today continues to recognize its incredible spiritual powers.

Luckily for all us spiritual folk, amethyst is one of the most common crystals on Earth. It can be found in many different countries. Places like Africa, Mexico, Europe, Brazil, Canada, Bolivia, USA and Russia are common distributors.

Please keep in mind that metaphyiscal attributes are open to interpretation. The following information is based off what I have learned during my own experiences and research. There is no one right or wrong answer. Decide what resonates with you and feel free to disregard what doesn’t.

Chakras: Closely connects with the Third Eye and Crown chakras.

Zodiacs: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. Traditional birthstone for February which connects with Aquarius as well.

If you or a loved one suffers from addiction, amethyst would be an excellent choice for healing. For starters, it eases anxiety and attracts more positive energy. It also promotes spiritual growth while helping to cleanse the elimination organs. This is awesome for detoxing as well as shadow work. Both are necessary when overcoming addiction and trauma of any kind.

Physical Characteristics of Amethyst

This lovely stone is a variation of quartz crystal and forms in the trigonal crystal system. It forms into terminated geodes, clusters, and generators of all sizes. Usually, the richest purple color is found in the center of the stone with the terminations being more transparent.

Sometimes, it forms with hematite which produces a gorgeous black amethyst that combines spiritual energy with grounding energy. Chevron amethyst is quite stunning as well. I always look for those gorgeous white streaks when I’m making my amethyst jewelry. I hope you love that look as much as I do!
