The Death Card

Rebirth, cycles, change, endings, beginnings, blockage

The Death tarot card almost never symbolizes actual death. It represents change, cycles, and rebirth. Initially, death seems scary, but ultimately it’s a beautiful thing that makes us feel more alive!

The death in the card is referring to the death of a relationship, a circumstance, a mindset, a season, or anything else coming to a natural end.

What is dying will depend on the context of the reading and the questions asked. There is a sense of loss and mourning in this card. We’re being guided to let go of something that has been part of our lives for a while (maybe even a long while).

We may feel sad at the loss of the thing, but the more important aspect of The Death tarot card is the rebirth of something new. In order to bring something new into our lives (especially while actively manifesting), we must first make room for it.

The thing that is coming to a close will almost never be something we still need. It’s probably something that isn’t serving your highest good anymore (assuming it ever did).

The Death tarot card teaches us the value in letting go. We can never grow if we don’t let go. This card represents transformation, and we cannot transform if we don’t leave behind the version of ourselves we’ve outgrown.

Death Tarot Meaning

In a reading, The Death tarot card meaning is simply an ending. But, all endings are also beginnings. We cannot have an ending without also having a beginning.

This is likely appearing during a time of transition. Probably something significantly–like a move, break up, a new relationship, a promotion, an opportunity, and so on.

It can be daunting to leave behind the old ways. We’ve grown comfortable there. But the Death card is guiding us towards a brighter future that exists outside the comfort zone.

Death tarot cards have a horrible reputation born of fear. Most people are extremely afraid of physical death, so the mere mention of it causes walls to go up and denial to kick in.

However, The Death in tarot is a positive thing. It represents opportunities and release. A new phase of life that is just beginning.

The Death Tarot Card Reversed

In a reading, a reversed Death tarot card is probably representing a blockage. Probably mental. There’s a refusal to move onto the next stage for whatever reason, and it’s hurting our progress.

Dwelling in the comfort zone may feel safe, but it is far from fulfilling. It’s time to face forward and move onto better things. Don’t let the fear of the unknown stop you from experiencing the fullness of life.

Because The Death tarot card is all about living life fully. It represents phases and changes. We can’t fully experience life if we only live out one particular phase.

Feelings of being trapped or stuck are showing up in the reversed Death tarot card. But, that is of our own doing. We are feeling trapped because we’re refusing to let go of old patterns, beliefs, habits, relationships, or jobs.

The Death tarot card almost never symbolizes actual death. It represents change, cycles, and rebirth. Initially, death seems scary, but ultimately it’s a beautiful thing that makes us feel more alive!

Death Tarot Card Guide

Instead of dreading the Death tarot card, be excited when it appears! It’s actually a card filled with hope and optimism. No doom and gloom in this one.

Doom and gloom are only perceived in this card because of our own mental state. It is our own limiting beliefs and restrictions that keep us from moving onto the next season.

We should be in a constant state of growth and change, just like Mother Nature. The short time frame in which the seasons are transitioning is often the most beautiful. The transition you’re getting ready to experience with the Death card can be smooth and painless, if you allow it.

The Death tarot card wants us to ask ourselves–what is something that’s been weighing me down that I can finally let go of? What limiting beliefs are keeping me from stepping into my fullest potential?
