Holistic Healing Defined

What is Holistic Healing?

“Holistic healing” is a term that gets tossed around a lot, so it’s important that we all know exactly what it means. On the blog here, I have a whole bunch of posts in this category.

I believe this is the best approach to maintaining good health and high spirits. Really, it is a lifestyle choice that impacts every area of our lives. In this article, I’ll be talking about the different ways we can heal ourselves and why we should heal in this way.

“You have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that. We think so often that we are helpless, but we’re not. We always have the power of our minds…Claim and consciously use your power.” — Louise Hay

Holistic healing is the practice of treating the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.

As opposed to more modern medicine practices that really only treat the symptoms. We may take a holistic approach to literally ANYTHING. Any type of healing we may need can be done in a natural way.

Now, I’m not bashing modern medicine because it’s obviously extremely important. We need this knowledge to heal our bodies when we have serious health issues. However, we should not be treating the mind, body, and spirit as if they were separate from each other.

Please note that I am not a doctor by any means and I am not recommending that you abandon modern medicine altogether. I’m just suggesting that you live a lifestyle that keeps you healthy, sane, and enlightened.

If we do get diagnosed with a serious medical condition, we should definitely seek the treatment our doctors recommend. But we should also take steps to improve our mental and spiritual health.

That way, we are truly getting to the root of the diagnosis and curing ourselves from the inside out.

Holistic Medicine Types

Often referred to as “alternative” medicines, holistic healing has a bad reputation in some places. These methods usually don’t have any “valid research” that supports the practice directly, other than the testimonies of actual patients. Personally, I think this is because the research tends to neglect the fact that these practices include more than just treating the physical body.

In a holistic health practice, we do not wait until something feels wrong to start the healing process. Basically, you’re constantly healing yourself because this is a lifestyle choice.

Holistic health is about consistently treating the mind, body, and spirit with respect. Which results in excellent overall health that is easy to maintain.

No matter where you are starting from, you absolutely can live a beautiful life in good health. The question is: will you allow yourself to try something new?

There are many, MANY different types of alternative healing therapies that are waiting to be explored. The idea is to consider the deeper meaning of our ailment.

Things just don’t randomly happen within the body. They are a manifestation of our deeper emotions, thoughts, and beliefs. I happen to be a Certified Crystal Healer myself, although I do not limit myself to just this one method. Below are a few examples.

Holistic therapies include but are not limited to:

1. Crystal healing (free course)
2. Acupuncture
3. Aromatherapy (related article)
4. Homepathy
5. Sound healing
6. Ayurvedic medicine
7. Reiki
8. Chiropractic
9. Meditation (related article)
10. Reflexology
11. Parapsychology

How The Mind, Body, & Spirit Are Connected

Most of us are aware that our thoughts determine our reality, conscious or subconscious. Thoughts can manifest themselves in the physical body (think massive injuries, random pain, chronic issues, etc.). Holistic health takes steps to aid the physical pain, as well as get to the root of the issue within our consciousness. Often, this step will lead us to whatever shadow work needs to be done within the soul.

Childhood lessons usually leave impressions on the subconscious mind, good or bad. These childhood lessons transform themselves into our core beliefs, soon becoming the foundation on which we act upon. Our minds are very malleable and powerful—what we see to be true in our mind becomes what is true in our reality.

At the center of our being is our soul, which chose to incarnate as “us” for a specific purpose. The lessons we absorb in our youth all contribute to our greater goals in this life. Our soul wants to experience these sort of hardships so that we can learn and grow from them.

The soul comes into this life with goals to learn specific lessons. The first few decades are setting the stage for our future. We decide what we believe and what we reject. If the foundation we set up doesn’t align with our soul’s purpose, it will inevitably come crashing down. It’s possible that we will gain weight, get sick, and/or vibrate at a lower frequency.

Eventually, we will need to re-discover our purpose. Then re-shape our conscious thoughts to reflect our purpose. And take care of our physical vessel so we can fulfill our purpose. This brings us to a holistically healthy lifestyle. Hopefully, the connection between the mind, body, and spirit is becoming more clear.

How To Get Into Holistic Healing

I sincerely hope that I have sparked a bit of inspiration within you. And now you’re excited to take more holistic approach to your health! Yay! This truly is a lifelong endeavor, so please don’t feel obligated to “figure it out” instantly.

Remember: this is a drastic lifestyle change and it will not happen overnight. Some of it may be a little weird or uncomfortable, but stick with it. You literally have your whole life to learn your soul lessons. There is no rush.

To get the ball rolling, I have a series of questions you could ask yourself when you are stricken with any ailment, large or small: What exactly am I feeling within my body right now? How do I feel about my current life situation? What types of emotions have I been feeling recently? Are there any repressed or ignored emotions trying to escape? Do I truly express my most authentic self? What is my ailment forcing me to stop doing and/or start doing?

Now, time to get a little more specific. I have a few suggestions for anyone looking to take charge of their lives and make some serious changes below:

On healing the mind: Never underestimate the power of thought. Especially positive thought! Whatever is going on inside your consciousness will be reflected in your tangible reality. Each time you get lost in thought, stop yourself and question whether or not this is helping or hindering your mental health. I highly recommend the book You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay as it goes into greater depth on this topic.

On healing the body: My personal belief is that physical exercise should never be considered a chore. We are much more likely to be consistent with our exercise if we actually enjoy it. Taking energy to move our bodies in ways we don’t find enjoyable is a waste. Yoga is truly fantastic—it teaches us to calm the mind, illuminate the soul, and love the body. The Yoga Bible is an awesome tool to use.

On healing the soul: Take a long hard look at any pain point in your life. What pushes your buttons, and why? Think about any childhood memories that stand out, and how they could be impacting you now. Traumas have a way of being blessings in disguise. Be brave and explore the shadow parts of your soul. You will emerge on the other side a much stronger person. You Can Heal Your Life also discusses this topic at length.
