Making Moon Water

Charging moon water is extremely simple, yet superbly magical! All you need to do is leave clean water in a clean, closed glass jar under the moonlight for the entirety of the night.

When you wake up, you’ll have lunar infused water! And this special water can be used for so many spiritual practices.

Your jar doesn’t have to be outside for this to work. Just like you don’t have to leave your crystals outside to charge under the moon. Leaving it near a window is just as effective.

It is best if the container is made of clear glass. The lid of it doesn’t need to be, but keep in mind that materials like plastic leak chemicals. Water is impressionable and we don’t want the magic to be tainted.

Not to mention the fact that plastic is horrible for the environment and we should all be doing our best to cut it out of our lives completely in all capacities.

There are lots of different bells and whistles you can add to your moon water. All optional! The energy of the moon is enough on its own to transform the water.

But if you did want to get fancy, you could add crystals and/or herbs. Or plan when to make your moon water depending on the moon phase or when its entered a specific zodiac sign. We’ll talk more about that shortly.

What to do with moon water

This is a question I get asked all the time regarding moon water. What the heck do you do with it? The answer–anything you would normally use regular water for.

The main difference is that the act of using the water is now sacred. You’re not just simply drinking the water, you’re internalizing moon energy and integrating it into your body. You’re not just pouring water over yourself, you’re taking a cleansing moon bath.

Keep this in mind when you go about using our moon water. Basically, you can replace regular water with your moon water at any time.

  • Drink it (you, children, and/or pets)
  • Cook with it
  • Water your plants, seeds or garden
  • Pour it over your head
  • Use it in the tub
  • Wash your face
  • Sprinkle around your home
  • Cleanse your spiritual tools
  • Use in spiritual rituals or spells
  • Wash your clothes or bed sheets
  • Wash your dishes or utensils
Water is alive! It absorbs the surrounding energy and adapts it as its own. And what are humans mostly made of? Water!

Moon Water Ritual

Water is inherently magical and special, just like the moon. You may be familiar with the famous water crystal experiments performed by Masaru Emoto in his book The Hidden Messages in Water

His experiments showed that water develops breathtaking crystal molecules when exposed to positive affirmations, pleasant sounds, and loving energy.

The opposite is also true. When water is exposed to angry words, hateful energy, harmful sounds, or even ignored completely, the molecules appear broken and dismantled.

Water is alive! It absorbs the surrounding energy and adapts it as its own. And what are humans mostly made of? Water!

Emoto explains in his book that the water in our bodies reacts in the very same way. When we are exposed to loving, positive energy, our vitality rises. This theory is fascinating–implies so much about the health of our bodies and the power of human consciousness.

When we make moon water, we are performing very similar experiments as Emoto did for decades (and continues to teach about).

We are exposing the water to high vibrational, positive lunar energy that changes the molecular structure of it. And by this logic, we wouldn’t even need the moon to create spiritual water. So long as we are expressing love and gratitude towards the water (and by extension, our bodies), the water’s vibration is rising.

So why make moon water then?

Making lunar water is so easy and requires very little effort on our part. It’s a guarantee! It also happens very quickly, which is both convenient and incredible.

And as you know, the moon is constantly going through phases, passing through each of the twelve zodiac signs in a single cycle.

We can use this energy to our advantage to add an extra layer of spiritual meaning to our moon water. Below I’ve outlined some easy steps to follow if you wanted to add a little pizazz to your moon water making:

  1. Cleanse your space, your aura, and your moon water jar. Fill it up with clean water and place the lid on it.
  2. Sit in quiet meditation for a few minutes with your jar of water nearby.
  3. Once you’re ready, hold the water in your hands and visualize white angelic light pouring in from the Universe through your crown chakra and flowing into the water.
  4. See the water glowing with white light within your mind’s eye. Hold this visual for a minute or so (or as long as you’d like!)
  5. Once you feel ready, place your water somewhere where it will receive the moonlight. Either outside or on a windowsill or an end table.
  6. Say a little prayer of gratitude to the water, the moon, and the Universe for the opportunity to create magic.

Full Moon Water

You can create Full Moon water up to three days before and after the Full Moon. But it is best to get as close to the actual Full Moon as possible.

Adding an extra layer of spiritual meaning to your moon water is as easy as paying attention to the lunar cycles.

Creating magical water at the Full Moon is extremely popular. The energy of the Full Moon is usually intense, making for powerful water.

The Full Moon is also a time of release. Using Full Moon water can help you wash away what no longer is serving you.

Depending on what zodiac sign the Full Moon is in, you can use the water to help you release things related to that area of life. For example, you could use Libra Full Moon water to help you let go of the need to control.

New Moon Water

Just as important as the Full Moon is the New Moon. The energy of the New Moon isn’t as intense, but it is quite invigorating.

The New Moon is a time of beginnings. Using New Moon water can help you assimilate magical intentions into your life and body.

Depending on what zodiac sign the New Moon is in, you can use the water to help you determine what actions best suit you now. For example, you could use Libra New Moon water to get very clear on your goals and plan for success.

Just like the Full Moon, you can create New Moon water up to three days before and after. You can also experiment with making lunar water around the other moon phases to support those intentions.

Lunar Water

I hope you’re feeling inspired to create some magical water tonight! You don’t have to wait for a certain phase to come around. Create your lunar water and drink it first thing in the morning.

As always, listen to your intuition and your body. I intuitively feel my lunar water is at its peak the following morning, and it seems to hold onto that energy for several days before going “stale” again.

Remember that water is alive! Show it love and gratitude, and it will respond in kind. Pick yourself up a copy of The Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto to discover more about magical water.
