What is Human Design?
Table of Contents
Similar to an astrology chart, your human design chart is an energetic blueprint of who you are. It takes your birthday, time, and location to determine your design type. There’s an emphasis on logic and practical application in human design.
This modality was channeled through Carla L. Rueckert in 1987 from a benevolent entity called Ra (like the Egyptian God). Her work, co-created by Don Elkins, resulted in six books teaching the Law of One and developing the human design chart.
This chart tells you where your intuition lies. It also tells you when you are in alignment, what it feels like to be out of alignment (the not-self), where your fears land, how to best make decisions, and more about who you are as a person.

The intention of human design charts is to learn how to work with these aspects of yourself rather than against them.
There are five types of humanness. You have the manifestors, the manifesting generators, generators, projectors, and reflectors. Each type has a “not-self” theme that pulls them out of alignment. In this post, we’ll briefly explain each type.
When you first look at your chart, it looks a little like there’s shapes and lines. There will be information listed about your main design type. Undefined centers (shapes that appear to be empty) in your chart indicate areas where you reflect others/the world. You can get your chart through the following resources:

Human Design Manifestor
The manifestors are the trailblazers. They’re the only type that can actually act upon an idea they received from Source. They are independent action takers.
Manifestors are the entrepreneurs of the world. These are the people that pioneer new inventions, industries, theories, philosophies, and so much more.
Their not-self is anger. Meaning when a manifestor is angry, they are not in alignment with themselves. If they don’t feel they are making progress, they will get angry, further stilting their progress.
And when they are in their zone of genius, they don’t wanna be disturbed. So if they are disturbed, then that’s when they can get angry. Not just frustrated or annoyed, but outraged.
But they need to give people a heads up because their aura is so powerful. Otherwise, their ideas and their work may not be well received.
Communication is really important for manifestors because if they dive head-first into a project without telling anyone, their aura becomes really harsh.

Human Design Generator
The generators are the builders. The generators like to do things in a linear step by step process and do not want to feel rushed. They are meant to do things that light them up.
If generators are doing something that doesn’t light them up, then they’re not-self comes to the surface, which is frustration. Asking for help and outsourcing is important for generators. Otherwise, they could hit a wall and things will take longer.
The generators and the manifesting generators (below) are 70% of the population. A lot of the stuff you hear in society is based on those types.
Both of these types have a lot of energy and they are the ones who have that gut response. The other types don’t have that.
It is important for generators to have fun and to burn off their energy. Physical exercise and regular indulgence in hobbies can even help them sleep better.

Human Design Manifesting Generator
As the name implies, they are a mix of manifestors and generators. They still have a lot of energy to burn off, they need to do things that light them up, and they are creatively building new things.
Manifesting generators like to have their hands in multiple pots. They have a tendency to try everything and have many well-developed skills. They are designed to embrace multiple passions at once.
Strategy, patience, and time management are important for manifesting generators. They tend to skip a bunch of steps and jump right to the end of their projects. They often have to double back and redo parts.
Working fast, getting things done, and moving onto the next thing is the way of a manifesting generator. Burn out and overwhelm comes easily, however. Their not-self is both anger and frustration simultaneously.

Human Design Projector
Projectors are the guides. They are here to guide the other types, as well as understand and notice things that other types don’t. There’s a talent for seeing situations differently, where they are meant to guide others in the right direction.
And so, because they are guides, they do not have the same amount of energy as the other types. They may be completely spent for the day after 4-6 hours of hard work.
It’s important that projectors be very mindful of their energy. Napping and meditating, or simply taking frequent breaks can keep them feeling high vibe.
Projectors will often wait for invitations, rather than take initiative. When they want to guide someone else, or discuss a topic, they will not be the ones reaching out. They co-create with the Universe by being themselves and waiting for opportunities to come along.
Projectors’ not-self theme is bitterness. If they don’t feel seen, they will become bitter and out of alignment. Words of affirmation are very important to them.

Human Design Reflector
This is the rarest human design type. They will sample everyone’s aura so to speak. Because they don’t have any “centers” which are the shapes within the human design chart. If you’re a reflector, none of your centers will be shaded in.
When the centers are undefined or open like that, you’re taking energy from the outside world within yourself. Reflectors act as human mirrors and provide lots of special learning opportunities for everyone they meet.
These people think outside the box. They tend to not have any inner authority, and connecting with their own intuition can be challenging. But they tend to be sensitive to the energies around them.
Making decisions, whether small or massive, can take a lot of time. Their highs and lows can be really high or really low from day to day.
Reflectors’ not-self theme is disappointment. Their environment is very important because of all their open centers. So they need to make sure in whatever environment they are in, it feels right.

Types of Human Design
Humans are currently going through a major evolutionary upgrade (called ascension). Reflectors and projectors are the ones guiding humanity towards this new way of being.
Before, we were living in a manifesting generator and generator world. And we have our complex society, infrastructures, and all the knowledge we’ve gained so far to show for it.
There’s a new ideology emerging: you don’t need to hustle and grind for work because there are lots of better ways to use your energy.
Every human design type has a place in the world, with special gifts to give. Knowing your type can help you live your spiritual purpose and feel more fulfilled.
